I’d also like to give a little of my own information after studying them, to answer some people’s curiosities, these insects typically do NOT bite humans, however as I said before they are scavengers, if you pick up a particularly hungry one they may poke you with their sucker, and it will pinch a bit, other than this though they do not hurt humans, and their bite is non-toxic. The only down-side about them is that they are scavengers, they will eat ANYTHING including each other, if they are hungry enough they will even try to eat humans though they don’t like the taste. I like boxelder bugs particularly because they are cute, and they are more docile than carpenter ants, they don’t even hurt the environment they inhabit. When I find an insect in my house rather than kill it I simply put it outside, it is wrong to kill an insect for absolutely no reason. I believe that all forms of life deserve a place on this planet, even pesky mosquitos or cockroaches. There are too many creepy or ugly insects around but these ones I can enjoy. I thought I’d say that these little guys are really nice bugs. I’m looking forward to using this flash system outside, so I can capture images of insects, flowers, and other small things when the available natural light isn’t quite as good as I might want. All these shots were hand-held at 1/250 sec exposures. The bugs were photographed walking around on the white plastic (acrylic?) diffuser that came with the flash system. I had an 8mm extension tube on for all but the second photo shown here. Photography notes for those of you who care… These photos were all taken with the “standard” set-up of the R1 system, with two speedlight flashes, mounted at “9 and 3” at the front of my Nikon 105mm macro lens. Plus, they make very accomodating photo subjects in the dead of winter. As with every other insect species I know of, they have an fascinating life story, and they’re just trying to make their way through life like the rest of us. I guess I can live with that, and – with the exception of those you squish – so can the boxelder bugs. I understand that many of you won’t ever become fans of boxelder bugs. Their function is still a topic of debate among entomologists. Those smaller eyes are ocelli, or simple eyes, that (we think) can discriminate only between light and dark. Note the small eyes behind each of the main eyes. Here’s my next problem: Now that I’ve got a flash system to help me get better close-up insect photos, where am I supposed to find an insect to photograph during the middle of February in Nebraska?Įnter the friendly neighborhood boxelder bug… After considerable wandering about in the world of internet photography websites and equipment reviews, I am now the owner of a Nikon R1 Wireless Close-up Speedlight Kit. However, during the last couple years, I’ve been weakening, and looking at recent images from people like Clay Bolt and Piotr Naskrecki finally pushed me over the edge. Until now, I’ve just relied on natural light to illuminate the flowers, insects, and prairies I photograph. I finally broke down and bought a close-up flash system for my camera. They’re fascinating creatures and present no danger to you. Most importantly, please don’t let boxelder bugs frighten you. I’ve also written a separate post with more information on boxelder bugs if you are someone looking for that. The many comments added to this post since then have been tremendous, heartwarming, and are worth reading. Note: When I wrote this post back in 2013, I had no idea so many people would find it while looking for information on these harmless little critters who often like to share our living space. If that’s inconvenient for any reason, you can tell it to get out of the way. By default, the taskbar remains visible at all times. (If your Windows configuration includes multiple monitors, this command changes to Lock All Taskbars.)Īutomatically Hide The Taskbar. Also note that locking the taskbar does not prevent you from rearranging taskbar icons. It’s there so that you can easily switch in and out of the locked mode when you need to adjust the size or position of the taskbar. Note that the shortcut menu that appears when you right-click the taskbar also includes this command. On by default, this option prevents you from accidentally dragging the taskbar to the side of the monitor. Here is a rundown of the options shown in Figure 3-5: Figure 3-5 shows the first group of options on that Settings page.įigure 3-5 For most people, the options set here will be acceptable, especially Lock The Taskbar, which prevents you from accidentally dragging the taskbar to the side of the monitor. The Windows 10 taskbar offers a limited selection of customization options, most of which are available through Settings > Personalization > Taskbar (or right-clicking an empty space on the taskbar or the Task View button and clicking Settings). A faint line appears underneath the icon for a running program, and the program with the current focus has a subtle but noticeable transparent shadow to identify it. When you close that program, the button vanishes as well, unless you pinned it to the taskbar. The Windows 10 taskbar continues to serve the same basic functions as its progenitors-launching programs, switching between programs, and providing notifications-with only subtle changes in functionality.Įvery running program with a user interface has a corresponding taskbar button. In the years since, it has slowly evolved without changing its basic shape. The taskbar made its first appearance in Windows 95. There are a couple of different ways you can do it, including using the pinning wizard. The taskbar is that strip of real estate along one screen edge (bottom by default) that contains, from left to right, the Start button, the search box, the Task View button, program buttons, notification icons, icons for people, and a clock. It lets you pin multiple suggested websites to the taskbar. Here’s a look at how to use it or pin individual sites. Then click the Options button (three dots) in the upper-right corner of the toolbar.įrom the menu, choose the More tools > Launch Taskbar pinning wizard option. In Settings, click Appearance, then locate the Customize toolbar section. Next, choose the websites you want to pin to the taskbar and click Continue. Flip the switch beside Show vertical tabs button to turn it on. Upon flipping the switch, the vertical tabs button will appear instantly. To remove the widgets entry point from your taskbar, click or press the Windows logo key and select Settings > Personalization > Taskbar. This will bring up suggested sites that you want to pin. Note: Removing the widgets entry point from the taskbar does not sign you out. You can still access the widgets board by pressing the Windows logo key + W. On the next screen, it will prompt you to pin popular Microsoft web apps. This is not straightforward and would require you to change a set of icons as a resource in the Windowsapps folder. But this part is optional, and you can close the wizard if you don’t want them. You can also pin individual sites to the taskbar. To do that, pull up the site you want to pin. Then click the Options button (three dots), then head to More tools > Pin to taskbar.Ī prompt will come up where you can edit the site’s name and, when complete, click the Pin button. Alt + Tab: This keyboard shortcut now not only lets you access the apps you have open on your desktop, but also your open tabs in Edge. The site’s icon will appear on your taskbar for easier access. This will be either incredibly useful or annoying to users. If you want to get rid of a pinned site, right-click it and choose Unpin from taskbar from the menu. This development allowed the port to overcome shallow water conditions in its current location and to rival another deep-water port, the nearby Ningbo- Zhoushan port. By 2005, the Yangshan deep-water port had been built on the Yangshan islands, a group of islands in Hangzhou Bay linked to Shanghai by the Donghai Bridge. Since then, the port has developed at a rapid pace. In 1991, the central government allowed Shanghai to initiate economic reform. The economic policy of the People's Republic had a crippling effect on Shanghai's infrastructure and capital development. In 1949, with the Communist takeover in Shanghai, overseas trade was cut dramatically. By the early 20th century, it was the largest city and the largest port in East Asia. In 1842, Shanghai became a treaty port, thus developing into an international commercial city. Shanghai International Port Company Limited is a public listed company, of which the Shanghai Municipal Government owns 44% of the outstanding shares. The Port of Shanghai is managed by Shanghai International Port, which superseded the Shanghai Port Authority in 2003. It includes the confluences of the Yangtze River, Huangpu River (which enters the Yangtze River) and Qiantang River. The Port of Shanghai faces the East China Sea to the east and Hangzhou Bay to the south. Shanghai is one of only four port-cities in the world to be categorised as a large-port Megacity, due to its high volumes of port traffic and large urban population. Shanghai handled 43.3 million TEU in 2019. Shanghai's port handled 29.05 million TEU, whereas Singapore's was a half million TEU behind. They use mirrors to collect and focus the light towards the eyepiece. Reflecting telescopes are sometimes called Newtonian telescopes after their inventor Isaac Newton who built the first one in 1668.The astronomer, Galileo, was the first person to observe the night sky with a telescope, discovering the craters on the Moon, the rings of Saturn, and Jupiter’s four largest moons (Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto). They have a curved lens at one end that focuses the light down a long tube towards a second lens, called the eyepiece, which magnifies the image. Refracting telescopes were the first type of telescope and their invention is attributed to a Dutch lensmaker, Hans Lippershey in 1608.There are three main types of optical telescopes and these differ in the way that they collect light to form an image: R: The historic 19th century Great Melbourne Telescope in its original location. You know, at the age of 11, I got my first pair of turntables - straight-arm Technics - you know what I mean? - the hardest ones that you could scratch on. RZA: Well, my musical knowledge really came from being a DJ. Can you talk a little bit about, you know, composing and sampling the music backing for the records, what your approach is to that? GROSS: Now, you know, in addition to being, you know, an MC and to being one of the rappers with Wu-Tang Clan, you were also the chief producer and arranger. RZA: Well, thanks for having me on the show, y'all. No question, I would flow off and try to get the dough. No question, I would speed for cracks and weed. But it was just a dream for the teen who was a fiend, started smokin' woolies at 16 and runnin' up in gates and doin' hits for high stakes, makin' my way on fire escapes. And let's start it like this, son, rollin' with this one and that one, pullin' out gats for fun. Only way I begin the G off was drug loot. A young youth, yo, rockin' the gold tooth, 'lo goose. Had second hands, Mom's bounced on old man. WU-TANG CLAN: (Rapping) I grew up on the crime side, The New York Times side. Terry Gross spoke with RZA in 2005 after the release of his book, "The Wu-Tang Manual." We start with the single "C.R.E.A.M." from the Wu-Tang's 1993 debut album. The third and final season wrapped up in April. Recently, RZA was one of the executive producers of the Hulu series "Wu-Tang: An American Saga," which chronicled the rise of the group. RZA also composed music for several films, including Jim Jarmusch's "Ghost Dog," as well as "Kill Bill" and its sequel, directed by Quentin Tarantino. The name Wu-Tang Clan was inspired by kung fu movies and a mythical martial sword technique. Martial arts movies had a big influence on RZA growing up. He joined his cousins GZA The Genius and Ol' Dirty Bastard in 1992 to form the Wu-Tang Clan. RZA is also known as Prince Rakeem, Bobby Digital, the RZArector and Robert Diggs, which is his birth name. They turned the concept of a hip-hop crew inside out by creating a collective of nine MCs who also created their own music under different pseudonyms. Our first interview is with RZA, the chief composer and producer of the Wu-Tang Clan, which has often been called one of the most revolutionary rap groups of the mid-'90s. We're wrapping up the 50th anniversary of hip-hop by looking back at some of our most memorable interviews with performers who hold a significant place in history. But this is Quentin Tarantino’s movie. This is FRESH AIR. If it was my movie, I would have taken a chance. I wanted to take a chance, but in the movie business you can’t take those kind of chances. We rocked with it and it was one of the first things we did. We lost a sample, I made one Hip Hop beat. There’s only one piece of music that I didn’t feel comfortable with when we were done. "Crane and White Lightning" is a piece of music that Quentin wanted on the soundtrack, but was originally set for a Metallica track. A lot of that stuff is what I use to keep the vibe going between songs. There was one situation where you see, "Crane and White Lightning." That’s part of the original score, so it’s not really a song. So when he saw it, he was like, this is cake. Now, am I going to take it out in forty five minutes or am I going to fall asleep? I made sure it got out and if I saw something wrong with it, I fixed it. Put this in the oven, watch it, take it out in forty-five minutes. He was like, here go the eggs, the milk, the cake, the sugar, everything, and I’m going to stir it up. I think I was more of somebody that kept it in the guidelines of what he wanted. He had an idea and a vision when he wrote the script. Enjoy! Information about the creation process It is insanely well produced and its very athmospheric. I've always loved the Soundtrack to Kill Bill, i didn't even know that it was the RZA from Wu Tang Clan who produced it up until recently. This chapter describes the technique, its accuracy and current applications, and its potential role in the management of patients with early oral/oropharyngeal squamous cell cancer. The sentinel node biopsy procedure provides a means of obtaining tissue for pathological staging of the cervical lymph node basin, while potentially avoiding the morbidity of an elective neck dissection. However, only one-fourth of cT1-T2 patients are found to harbor occult nodal disease, and the remainder of patients may be unnecessarily exposed to the considerable morbidity associated with neck dissection. The gold standard for staging the cervical nodes is elective neck dissection, providing both diagnostic and therapeutic measures. Precise staging of the cervical nodes is therefore of utmost importance, to ensure an accurate prognosis and provision of the most appropriate treatment. In patients with cT1-T2 oral/oropharyngeal squamous cell cancer, involvement of the cervical lymph nodes is associated with a 50% decrease in 5-year survival and represents the most important prognostic factor in this patient group. |
